Italy’s First Accessible Film Festival Comes to New York
Monday, April 14, 2025 – Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (NYU)
INCinema – Inclusive Film Festival, the first Italian film event fully accessible to people with sensory disabilities, is making its U.S. debut in New York City in collaboration with Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (NYU).
Founded by Federico Spoletti and directed by Angela Prudenzi, INCinema is dedicated to promoting full inclusion in the film experience. The festival aims to break down sensory and communication barriers in cinema and foster a welcoming environment for all.
According to global data, one in six people will experience some form of disability during their lifetime. INCinema responds to this reality by raising awareness around the need for inclusive cinema through fully accessible screenings.
Each film in the program features on-screen subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing and audio description for the blind and visually impaired available via the free Earcatch app.
The festival also includes masterclasses, Q&As, and meet-the-author events, supported by live transcription.
After touring seven Italian cities – Florence, Lecce, Rome, Turin, Udine, Milan, and Trieste – INCinema launches internationally with special screenings in New York and London, showcasing restored Italian film classics.
The New York screening will feature a newly restored version of Dino Risi’s 1963 classic Il Giovedì (The Thursday) starring Walter Chiari, widely regarded as one of his finest performances.
